We are creating a centralized network that accelerates learning, strengthens clinical practice, and advances evidence-based prehospital POCUS.
About the Consortium
The Prehospital Ultrasound Consortium is a nationwide initiative dedicated to supporting EMS systems that use—or plan to use—point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). Founded by paramedic researcher Jessica Barbour, NRP, and Dr. David Rayburn, the consortium brings together diverse EMS agencies to share experience, exchange data, and build a connected community around the rapidly evolving world of field ultrasound.
How it works
-
Provide program details so we can include your agency in the national directory. -
Data is reviewed and added to our resource bank and communication network. -
Members can view emerging trends, common approaches, and real-world examples from peer organizations. -
As more agencies join, the dataset grows—supporting QI, education, and future research.
Why this Matters
Ultrasound is reshaping how EMS identifies life-threatening conditions, guides resuscitation, and informs clinical decisions in the field. Yet every agency implements POCUS differently—with varying equipment, training models, QI processes, and clinical expectations.
By linking programs nationwide, the consortium helps:
• Highlight best practices across EMS systems
• Strengthen training and credentialing structures
• Improve QI and image review processes
• Support research and data collaboration
• Promote clinical standardization in prehospital POCUS
• Connect agencies at every stage—from early adopters to mature programs
Better communication = better care.
